ACTIVITIES IN PALEOCHORA
(SOUTH CRETE)

Along a coastline of 11 km, you will find beautiful beaches for all tastes. Paleochora features two beaches: Pachia Ammos, a long sandy beach with crystal clear waters, awarded with a blue flag and a beautiful pebbly beach called Pebble Beach (Votsala). Whether you drive east or west from Paleochora, wonderful beaches await, such as Anidri (Gialiskari), Karavopetra, Psilos Volakas, Plakaki and many more. As you head west, you will come across Krios and later on the renowned Elafonissi (25 km from Paleochora).

Sports aficionados are bound to have so much fun in Paleochora. There are all kinds of waters sports in Pachia Ammos, the main beach in Paleochora, as well as a scuba diving and adventure centre organizing excursions, snorkeling tours and more at Gialiskari beach Crete.
Paleochora also features a basketball court, a football field, and a beach volleyball area for team sports lovers.

Paleochora is the perfect starting point for explorations in South Crete and the whole prefecture of Chania. There are exquisite destinations beyond Paleochora which are perfect for a daily visit and can be approached by ferry. Ferry boats connect Paleochora with Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro, Chora Sfakion, Elafonissi, Gavdos. Swimming, various activities in nature, sightseeing, hiking are only a few of the things you can do there.

Crete is well-known for its wild natural beauty, unique gorges and wonderful hiking trails and paths. If you love hiking, don’t miss the chance to explore some of the marked paths nearby Paleochora. Some of the routes you can take is from Azogires to Anidri village (2-hour hike – medium difficulty), while hiking lovers can also explore Anidri Gorge, Agia Irini Gorge and Pelekaniotis Gorge (longer hikes). One more nice path is E9, which connects the whole south part of Chania (Elafonisi-Paleochora-Ancient Lissos-Sougia-Agia Roumeli-Chora Sfakion) and it’s really worth exploring.
